c. 1880-1910, France
Soft blue opaline glass vanity set, trimmed in aged gilt and finished with hand-formed stoppers. A matching trio designed to live on a dressing table, not hidden away. One perfume atomizer with original brass hardware, paired with two lidded vessels.
Opaline glass, always hand made and colored with bone and ash, rose to popularity in 19th-century Europe as a symbol of refinement and modern luxury. These pieces were produced for women who treated getting ready as a ritual; fragrance applied deliberately, powders kept close, beauty objects meant to be seen. The soft blue hue was especially favored in French boudoirs, where color was chosen to flatter candlelight and skin.
The rounded forms, applied gilt bands, and hand-cut stoppers place this firmly in the Victorian to Edwardian period, before mass production flattened design into uniformity.
Condition: Very good antique condition with light, expected wear to gilt and small imperfections with age and hand made condition
Perfect on a marble or dark wood vanity, beside a mirror, silk scarf, or a small stack of books. Equally striking styled in a bathroom, bedroom, or dressing room where beauty is part of the atmosphere.
